The Wonder of God; the Wonder of Spring

I remember as a kid watching a lot of black and white TV. In fact, I still had a small 13-inch black and white in my bachelor pad even as late as 1990. I guess that’s one of the reasons I appreciate color TV and especially HDTV. I think what’s true about the superiority of how we view TV today should be true about how we view God and theology-that we should have a robust, colorful, and higher definition of our colorful creator, and our colorful creation, and nothing quite accentuates that as this season we’re plunging into, called spring.

This Sunday morning at 9:15 and 11:00, just in time for spring, I want to remind us of the beauty of God in pristine HD Color.

God’s word isn’t abstract doctrine, disconnected from real life. The minute we take the living, active Word of God and try to reduce it to systems of theology and remove it from the realness of our lives, is the minute we shrink God down to something below us rather than above us.

That’s why I can’t wait for Sunday. We’ll capture, or perhaps recapture the color of this God who invented Spring with all its lush texture and natural artistry. You will leave church with a renewed and revived appreciation for and awesome God who loves you as big and long as the cosmos stretches out forever.
